Why are IBEX's results exciting?
The maps created from IBEX's data provide a new way to look at our home in the galaxy—using particles instead of light. The IBEX results are truly remarkable! What the scientists are seeing in these maps does not match with what they thought they would see, and it is exciting to have to come up with a brand new explanation for what is happening at the edge of our Solar System. Scientists will review these maps, and they will need to change the way we understand our heliosphereThe region around the Sun where the solar wind dominates over the interstellar medium. and how it interacts with our part of the Milky Way galaxy.
